what is David like?

In a lot of ways this could be David.  In some ways, I think David is worse.  In other ways, David could be better.  I haven’t been able to find a better example. I would welcome a conversation with the people who do these news stories. The problems we have in this country with Mental… Continue Reading

An update on David’s recent crisis

David is stable.  He is still under the suicide watch and will continue to be for the next couple of days.  Tomorrow he sees the psych team, and Tuesday we meet with the therapist. Because of the number of staff that need to work with David at any one point, they didn’t have enough in… Continue Reading

A threat of suicide and a prayer

This morning, I received a phone call from staff.  David is in crisis. It is more than that.  Yesterday two young men got into a fight or something, and David decided to get involved.  As a result he lost all privileges.  Has to spend 20 minutes of every half hour with staff. They usually start… Continue Reading

Is it censorship or good parenting?

In light of the recent headlines regarding such “stars” as Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus and others, is it considered censorship to not allow my children to watch their videos, or listen to their music? For example.  Recently it has been alleged that the flight crew on Bieber’s plane had to go on oxygen because the… Continue Reading

David’s Honesty About Travel

Honesty is often times a misunderstood topic when it comes to David. Is he inherently honest?  Yes, I think so.  I think that most people are.  At least that is what I believe. On the other hand.  Do I believe everything David tells me? No.  I think not, and neither should you. Let me give… Continue Reading

David in Crisis Part 2

David was in crisis. His manic moods are nothing new to us.  They are new to the facility where he lives now. Today, among other things, they called and talked about an allegation that David made against a staff. David has learned that he can file grievances and complaints against the staff at the facility. … Continue Reading

David in crisis mode

Just received a call from the new facility. I could hear David in the background.  Full breakdown screaming. Evidently he is in crisis right now.  Have to find out how they define crisis, but it sounds like one of the other kids in the facility was having a rough time, and David was feeding off… Continue Reading

First contact and meeting at new facility

We had our first conference call with the team from the new facility yesterday.  A full team is involved.  Care team, medical team, education, and equally important, the family. Once we got through the initial introductions, focus was directly on medication.  Like mom and I, they believe that the least amount of medication necessary to… Continue Reading

David called twice…

David called.  Said he was getting ready to go swimming, and wanted to know if we had sent his life jacket yet.  I explained that we just got home, and hadn’t had a chance.  I asked him how he liked the place so far.  Seems to like it just fine.  He said that in some… Continue Reading

David is in the new facility.

We left home this morning in near blizzard conditions.  What should have been a 45 minute drive took more than an hour.  Loaded David’s things, consolidated the boxes from 7 to 4.  And then hit the road. David was very well behaved during the trip to the new facility.  468 miles. The new facility seems… Continue Reading
