Another pleasant visit

We had a pleasant visit with David today.  No issues, no tantrums. Last week after we left he had a period of high activity and needed to be restrained. They were afraid he would hurt himself or someone else.  Since then, no problems. Nearly every week I hear how good he is doing. If he… Continue Reading

A win, no matter how you look at it

Yesterday we spent the afternoon with David.  In addition to having Christmas with him, we also had his monthly staffing with the facility staff where he lives. Mostly positive reports. David continues to be all over the place with his energy levels and behaviors.  By all reports, he is doing very well in school. Last… Continue Reading

First visit with David

He has been a resident since October 3rd.  Today we had our first visit.  It went well, we were able to see him for two hours.  We played a couple of board games, and then watched a show on tv. He is as energetic as ever. It breaks my heart to see him happy there. … Continue Reading

Behavior Dependent – Holidays

David has been in placement for 6 weeks now. His behavior and aggressiveness toward others are not diminishing, thus they are not recommending any home visits.  We will reevaluate for Christmas.  This is as I expected, however it doesn’t make my heart hurt any less for him.  Does he miss us? I don’t think so. … Continue Reading

all in due time

With David out of the house 99.9 percent of the time, the other kids are coming out of their shells. I think one of the hardest things is having to call upstairs two or three or four times to get their attention.  Most of that is because they are teenagers and have teenage things on… Continue Reading

In Sickness and in Health

When my bride and I got married, that was a part of our vows.  As I am sure it was for most of our readers. It seems to me that when we have children there is an implied vow “in sickness and in health”. I don’t know of any parent who wouldn’t gladly switch places… Continue Reading

what is this? an mp3 player?

Received a phone call tonight from the residential facility where David is. Seems he had an mp3 player.  The staff was pretty sure that it belonged to the cottage, but David can tell a pretty convincing lie. David evidently told the staff that we had given it to him. Nope! So they called and asked.… Continue Reading

Full Mood David

David is in full form this morning. I feel bad for his teacher having to deal with him all day today. It is really too bad, the morning started out great, but then I asked him to stop playing with his clean clothes, they are in a suitcase that we have packed in case he… Continue Reading

hypervigilance is starting to wear me out

This constant state of awareness is starting to wear me down. Having to always be on, and aware of David’s position/location in the house is wearing on everyone. tonight I caught him hiding a couple of combination padlocks in the couch.  He claimed to have found them on the floor.  He said that Cinnamon  must… Continue Reading
